Arrowmen Give Service Cheerfully to Ridgecrest Conference Center
Throughout Indian Summer Arrowmen have participated in a
variety of service projects for Ridgecrest Conference Center.
Interestingly, it was the first time that an organization has volunteered service to
the Ridgecrest Conference Center. The main service project consisted of
landscaping a new prayer garden. This landscaping included moving cinder
blocks, building a retaining wall, and repairing the prayer garden trail. Andy
Newberry from Mawat Woakus Lodge of Black Swamp Area Council stated, “This
service project has been great. I have never felt so rewarded when I have been so
dirty.”
People always knew when the service projects were going on because of the
roar that came up from the creek where the work was being done. “Some guys
got started singing Karma Chameleon and before you knew it we were all working
and singing 80s music at the same time,” said Adam Schmidt of Tom Kita Chara
Lodge of Samoset Council.
Overall, over 800 person-hours of service were provided by the OA to
Ridgecrest. All participants and staff that helped in the service project received a pin
that completed the conference patch.
