National Conference Functioning Committees
The 2000 National Order of the Arrow Conference is planned and produced by a National Conference Committee, consisting of section chiefs from across the country and members of the National Order of the Arrow Committee. A National Planning Meeting, held in December prior to the conference, is used to select a theme and begin development of the conference program.
The section chiefs elect a national chief, vice chief, four region chiefs, and conference vice chiefs to develop and deliver their program plans. Members of the National Order of the Arrow Committee provide overall guidance and leadership for the conference.
Veteran Arrowmen from around the nation make up the National Order of the Arrow Committee and bring to the NOAC not only extensive Order of the Arrow and Scouting experience, but years of experience in staging and administrating past NOACs.
A Vice-Chairman of the National Order of the Arrow Committee serves as Conference Program Chairman. He appoints lead advisers and supports the national chief and vice chief in managing and producing the conference. The National Director of the Order of the Arrow is the Conference Staff Adviser and holds the professional accountability for the conference. Three other members of the national committee serve as Program or Facilities Coordinators, helping to guide the development of specific areas of the conference.
The 2000 National Conference is organized into twelve functioning committees. Program committees are led by a Conference Vice Chief, with other section chiefs serving on the committee. A member of the National Order of the Arrow Committee serves as Lead Adviser to each committee. The committees recruit additional youth and adult staff, as necessary, to carry out their conference responsibilities. Specific committees and their areas of responsibility are outlined below:
American Indian Events
| Responsible for conducting the many and varied American Indian programs, including pageants, dance and attire competitions, the American Indian show, etc. |
Camping and High Adventure
| Responsible for all camping and high-adventure exhibits and for the development, construction and operation of all outdoor/camping skills areas. |
Communications
| Oversees all community relations, hometown news, media contacts, radio station, information booths, and the NOAC Web site. Publishes the daily conference newsletter. |
Competitions and Recreation
| Responsible for staging a variety of activities, including: athletic competition, recreation, displays, band and chorus. |
Inductions and Ceremonial Events
| A committee specially organized to help lodges improve the quality of their ceremonies. This includes staging techniques, memorization, and American Indian attire. |
Financial Services
| Responsible for oversight of daily financial and business operations of the conference. Responsible to the conference director for fiscal operations. |
Founder's Day
| Responsible for developing and providing leadership to the Founder's Day festival. |
Shows
| Staging of the opening and closing shows, the theme show, and other conference-wide productions of this kind. |
Special Events
| Responsible for the Saturday night opening extravaganza and programs for selected conference participants, including Very Important Arrowmen (VIA) luncheons, Distinguished Service Award and professional Scouter dinners, meetings with national officers and committeemen, OA museum, etc. |
Support Services
| The support arm of the conference, providing for a variety of services that make the conference operate smoothly, including equipment, service lodge, transportation, recognition and awards, security, health and safety, print shop, etc. |
Trading Post
| Staffing and operation of the conference trading post. |
Training
| Responsible for developing and conducting more than 100 training programs and educational opportunities for both youth and adult participants. |
