Among the thousands of participating Arrowmen, there are a select few that have voluntarily given up some other NOAC activities to serve their brothers through the Brotherhood Band or the Brotherhood Chorus.
The Brotherhood Band has been a part of NOAC for many years. Under the leadership of director Randy Decker, the Brotherhood Band has become an integral part of many aspects of NOAC including playing a pre-show concert every night and during the Founder's Day events. The 2000 NOAC Brotherhood Band consists of 88 participants and 12 staff, totaling 100 musicians. |
When asked the question, "Why did you decide to play in the Brotherhood Band?" one member of the band responded, "I have an instrument and love to play. The Brotherhood Band sounded like something cool to do at NOAC." Another response was, "Music is the universal language so it reaches across all the Brotherhood and brings a group with a common interest together."
The Brotherhood Chorus has over 200 members, and is under the direction of Dr. Alan Eggleston from La Porte, Indiana and Sakima Lodge #573. Alan is a Senior District Executive and a former Professor of Music at the University of Arkansas and the University of Idaho
This year's chorus is the biggest ever. They rehearse for a solid hour every day and have performed four to five times a day at events such as the VIA Lunch, the DSA dinner, the opening of the OA Museum, the Section Officers and Advisers Dinner and tailgate parties. The Chorus will perform at the Professional Scouters Dinner, Founder's Day and the closing show.
All members that participate fully receive a limited edition commemorative Brotherhood Band and Chorus neckerchief. (The neckerchief pictured has a typographical error; it should read "Brotherhood Band and Chorus.") This neckerchief can only be earned through the Brotherhood Band and Chorus program.
