The Camp Promotion Extravaganza was held Tuesday, from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. in the Scheman Building. This event gave camping specialists the opportunity to display the latest and best camping gear to thousands of Arrowmen. Everything from sleeping bags to flashlights on headbands were available to look at and buy.
There was also a booth promoting Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimmaron, New Mexico, the Sommers Canoe Base in Ely, Minnesota, and the Sea Base in Florida. All three High Adventure camps had flyers and spokesmen to answer questions about the camps. The Canoe Base even had a man in costume as a Voyager to spark interest among visitors.
One floor up from the gear demonstrators were booths from various Lodges. These Lodges were promoting their local summer camps. Visiting the different booths, one could see videos, pictures, maps and patches from their camps. They too were staffed with Arrowmen who could answer any questions that may come up when visiting their booth.
Not only was it a great event to attend, but their was a small reward for going to the Camp Promotion Extravaganza. This morning at breakfast, everyone should have received a small wooden nickel advertising the Extravaganza. The only way to get the matching red wooden nickel was to attend the event. | ||
The Camp Promotion Extravaganza was also one event that helped Arrowmen earn the 1998 NOAC Vision Award. |
