1999 National Leadership Summit

Important Information

National Leadership Summit

The purpose of the National Leadership Summit will be to present the Order of the Arrow's new strategic plan (1998-2002) to its key lodge, section, and region leadership.   Training, workshops, and discussion groups on how to implement the new plan will be a part of the summit program.

The Order's key leadership will learn how the Order of the Arrow plans to expand its reach beyond camping to include greater focus on leadership development, membership extension, adventurous programming, and broader service to Scouting and community.

Dates and Location

The1999 National Leadership Summit will begin with dinner on Saturday, July 31 and conclude at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 1999, at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado.

All summit participants are to register by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 31.

Attendance

Lodges attending the 1999 National Leadership Summit may send no more than four (4) Arrowmen to the Summit.  Two of the Arrowmen must be youth members under the age of 21 during the entire summit.  All participants must be members of their lodge's executive committee.

It is the National Order of the Arrow Committee's goal and desire to have every lodge's key three leadership attend the summit (lodge chief, lodge adviser, lodge staff adviser or Scout Executive).  As an incentive, the lodge key three leaders will collectively receive a $100 rebate if they aill attend the leadership summit.  In addition to the key three, one (1) additional youth member from your lodge's executive committee may attend the summit.

Remember that every lodge trip or outing and every section trip or outing must have two deep leadership.  A member of the Order, between the age of eighteen (18) and twenty-one (21), who is registered as an assistant Scout Master or Venturer may fulfill the leadership requirements as one of the adult leaders for an Order of the Arrow trip or outing although they hold youth membership in the Order.  The other adult must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older.

A 1999 National Leadership Summit Reservation Kit was mailed to each council Scout Executive in December 1998.

Invitations to the National Leadership Summit are also being mailed to every section and region key three.  Sections attending the 1999 National Leadership Summit may send their key three to the summit (section chief, section adviser, and section staff adviser or area director).  If the area adviser approves, the area adviser may also be invited to participate in the National Leadership Summit.

The Order is expecting approximately 1,200 Arrowmen to attend this historic event.

Summit Fee

The summit fee is $225 for youth and adult members who pay their total summit fee by April 1,1999 (postmark date).  Summit fees paid after April 1, 1999, will be $250 for both youth and adult members.  The fee includes housing, meals, program and support materials, recreation and special events, and recognition items during the four day summit.

To make a reservation for your lodge leadership, each lodge must complete the 1999 National Leadership Summit Lodge Reservation Form that was mailed to every Scout Executive in December of 1998, and submit it to the National OA Office by April 1, 1999.   No individual reservations will be accepted.  All lodge reservations must be transmitted through their local council office and accompanied with he enclosed transmittal form.
