National chief panel, a look into the past

The centennial NOAC lends itself to a number of reunions of Arrowmen from across the country. One very unique reunion occurred on Wednesday, when former OA national officers assembled to answer question and share their memories and stories about their experience in the Order.

The assembly included 2012 National Chief John Rehm, 2000 Chief Carey Mignerey, 1988 Chief Jeff Moser, 1979 and 1980 two‐term Chief Jeff Herrmann and 1961 National Conference Chief Ron Temple.

Each shared how they started in the OA and their journey to become national chief.

For Ron Temple, it was his Scoutmaster that got him involved, inspired and motivated to keep moving in his leadership roles. Jeff Moser’s chapter needed him the most, which got him involved in the leadership chain in the OA. John Rehm mentioned his passion for ceremonial teams, which caught his eye and got him his first chairmanship.

Jeff Herrmann loved the big politics and elections in the Order. At his first NOAC in 1975 he was a chapter chief. Lastly, Carey Mignerey, a very eager chapter service chairman climbed the ranks just like all the rest preceding him. Each of these Arrowmen had uniquely individual stories and revelations to tell. They each possessed that special something to get them to where they were years ago. Many of them are still very involved with scouting and our Order to this day. The service they have given us is something that we as an organization will not forget.

Take a moment to greet one of these history makers during the conference. Ask them to sign your sash and get to know some of our living history as each of these individuals had a personal hand in the making of the last 100 years.
