Artist in the GEO

PreviousNext

Joshua Hunt, the Order of the Arrow’s Artist in Residence, is spending most of his time at the National Order of the Arrow Conference working on a painting and interacting with conference guests in the Goodman Edson Observatory (GEO).

Entitled ‘Onward and Upward’ the painting features Michael Kipp, the Order’s National Vice Chief. The painting depicts the heights of our organization; a youth inspiring those gathered at the national conference.

The title and inspiration are drawn directly from the Ordeal Ceremony. As the ceremony progresses, Allowat Sakima shares his thoughts about the arrow’s significance.  “As the symbol of our Order, the Arrow has been fitly chosen,” he says. “It must be straight, its point keen. Aimed high, its course is undeviating, its direction onward and upward.”

Having a live artist at the conference provides an excellent opportunity for you to check in to see the painting’s progress. Not many people can say that they have watched a painting come to life before them. Make sure to check in with Josh at the GEO!
