Meet the Southern Region Chief

PreviousNext

Zach Callicutt, an Eagle Scout and Vigil Honor member from Chicksa Lodge in the Yocona Area Council, is the 2018 Southern Region Chief and is in charge of leading the planning of program here at the 2018 National Order of the Arrow Conference. Serving as an Elangomat not long after being inducted, he was admonished for breaking his vow of silence. “I felt ashamed and disappointed. In that moment, I promised myself I would be a model for other Arrowmen,” Callicutt noted.

Callicutt considers connecting with Arrowmen the most important role of his position. Attending the SR-7B Conclave, he met an Arrowman named Steven. “I felt a one-on-one connection with him,” said Callicutt. “On Sunday morning, I gave him my shoulder loops as a reminder that it was up to him to make a difference in our Order.”

At NOAC, Callicutt is tasked with leading program including Region Gatherings with the Activities, Recreation, and Competition Committee. He wants delegates to take away a deep understanding of the conference theme: Decide Your Destiny. Destiny isn’t set in stone; it changes every day, with every choice you make. “You can change your destiny, and this conference was designed to reinforce that idea.”

Callicutt thanks the Boy Scouts for preparing him for the real world. Time management was a skill he learned though Scouting and it helped him to easily adjust to college life at the University of Mississippi. Meeting new people was a skill that aided him when planning events during his freshman year.

Prior to Zach’s election as region chief, he served as section chief for SR-6, and is a recipient of the Founder’s Award and James E. West Award. Callicutt is a public policy leadership major at Ole Miss and plans to attend law school following his graduation.
