The National Order of the Arrow Committee will host and provide overall guidance and leadership to the 2003 Indian Summer Conference. Veteran Arrowmen from around the nation bring to the conference not only extensive Order of the Arrow and Scouting experience, but years of experience in staging and administrating national events.
Ron Bell of Miami, Florida has been appointed conference program chairman. Clyde Mayer, OA Director, will be the conference staff adviser.
The following veteran Scouters have been appointed to serve as lead advisers to one of the functioning committees for the 2003 Indian Summer Conference:
Administrative Support
Jim Simpson
O'Fallon, Illinois
Responsible for providing a variety of services that make the conference operate smoothly, including equipment and materials, service lodge, transportation, security, health and safety, registration, and financial services.
American Indian Events
Wayne Dukes
Findlay, Ohio
Responsible for conducting the many and varied American Indian programs, including crafts, singing, dancing, customs, traditions, and Indian games.
Inductions and Ceremonial Events
Terry Honan
Cumming, Georgia
Responsible for helping lodges improve the quality of their OA ceremonies (Ordeal, Brotherhood and Vigil). This includes ceremony settings, props, understanding the ten induction principles, symbolism, memorizing lines, and the development of low-cost ceremonial costumes.
Scout Services
R.D. Dunkin
Bettendorf, Iowa
Responsible for organizing conference participants into troops and conducting special events and recreational activities.
Support Services
Tom Reddin
Arden, North Carolina
Responsible for conducting the opening and closing assemblies at the conference, publishes a daily newsletter, updates the OA Web Site, and staffs and operates the conference trading post. (Oversees the Indian trading post at the conference.)
